Default Gas/oil mix

I had to disconnect the oil pump on my 1999 Polaris Xplorer 300. What gas/oil ratio should I use?

40 to 1 or 50 to 1 is a good one.

I would stick with 40:1 and the oil doesn't need to be anything fancy as long as it's made for 2 strokes. I believe 50:1 is supposed to be for Amsoil or something like that.

40 to 1 is a pretty standard ratio. You don't have to use the expensive Polaris oil as jumbofrank said. As long as its designed for 2 strokes, you're good to go. I wouldn't recommend buying the cheap Walmart brand 2 stroke oil but any reputable oil would be fine. We used the cheap Walmart stuff in a jetski once and though we're not sure that's what caused it, not long after that the engine needed rebuilt. Engine might have been pretty worn out already though.

Yes doing away with the oil pump I'd premix at 40-1 as the pumps on the air cooled and liquid cooled engines supposedly are metered at 50-1 ratio from the factory. At least that's what all the Polaris engineers told me years ago when I inquired about this.
