Warrior mantenance after break in...
#1
I just finished my break in period on my new Warrior and am wondering what all I need to do to it now? Obviously I am going to change the oil and filter, check/change the plug, and look it over for loose bolts, etc.
Are there any other things that I should do?
Are there any things that I should take it to a dealer to do?
Thanks a ton, I don't want to screw this toy up.

Now onto the regular maintenance. How long was your break in time? You should have your valves checked if your not comfortable with it yourself.
After that...occasional oil changes...keep the chain slack under control...oil the chain. Lube your cables (it prevents problems in the long run), Check/clean air filter...Possible even change to a pro design filter set up. If there are grease zerks (I don't remember now)..make sure you grease them.
Keep gas in the tank, air in the tires and enjoy it.
Sounds like your on the right path.
Have fun.

I considered my break in to be 20 hours. Not sure where I got that number, but I am pretty sure someone had told me that is what it took. Is that correct?
My other question is, are there any bolts/nuts that I should DEFINITELY take out and lock-tite? The only one I have noticed that has back out is the bolt that hold the chain guide (at least that is what I call it... rubber cylinder that the chain rubs against when it gets "bouncing.)
Thanks again.

If they were 20 careful hours...then I say, yes, you are pretty much broken in.
As far as the nuts and bolts go...Check whatever you can easily get too on a regular basis. Remember that thread lock is not good for plastic. So be very carefull around the chain guide. The only other concern I can remember having with the warrior was the wire for reverse down under the shift lever. Make sure it is plugged in and good and tight/ water tight.
The two bolts on the side of the head for the cam chain tensioner used to loosen on me frmo time to time also.

I seem to have a problem with the two big axle nuts on mine. From time to time they come loose. I killed a set of axle bearings with this problem. I recently purchased a locknut for it and retired the two big nuts. Hopefully this works. Anyone else know of this problem?

Yes, I have had my axel nuts come loose before. It seems to be a yamaha thing. My banshee, blaster and warrior have done it.
I forgot to mention it, but tightening the axel nuts should be done before every ride...or at least check them. This is one of the areas that using lock tite would not hurt.

The only time I had my axle nuts loosen on me is when I didn't tighten the second one enough. I never really had a problem other than that. Check all of the plastic bolts frequently. You will find them easing there way out or even gone if you dont check them often. Make sure you check the 4 main bolts that hold the head and cylinder on. Also check case bolts and the chain adjuster bolts that are through the axle housing. Those may loosen from time to time. I know mine do, I even loctite them and they still loosen. About the wire by the reverse, slide the rubber boot back off of the reverse lever and disconnect thegreen ground wire. Cut the end off and add a longer piece of wire, long enough to reach the battery and put it on the ground side of the batery. It will cut out at the top of every gear if this comes loose, which it does often setup the way it is from the factory. Thats all I can think of for now, any more questions, let me know.

Thanks allot guys... I think y'all just wrote a pretty good maintenance guide!
Now hopefully I will get a chance to ride soon. My toy has sat for three weeks, and it doesn't look like I will get to ride this weekend or next either. I HATE BEING BUSY!!!

Would you elaborate some more on that reverse wire making the engine cut out? i seem to have a problem with mine cutting out at the top of all the gears. I always thought it was the rev limiter so, i dont run it as hard. So if that wire dont have a good ground it will maybe seem like a rev limiter? Or am I riding to hard? My jet may be to big or small I thought could also be a problem. thanks

The problem with that wire is, sometimes it will vibrate and lose and then reconnect with ground causing the cutting out. It has happened to every Warrior owner that I know. Some people say just unplug it, but when I try that, I cant start the damn thing so I just grounded it to the negative on the battery. I hope this helps solve your problem, if it doesnt, it may be jetting or the stator coil going bad, that happened to mine after about a year.
