air box

My recommendation is if you need more air, just remove the lid. This still gives you some splash protection for the air filter from water and dirt thrown by the tires. If you take it all the way off, you will leave the air filter exposed to more dirt and water. You can also remove the lid and then replace it with an outerware. These are made from same material the air filter outerware is made of, but made to velcro to the air box. This lets in plenty of air, but still repels dirt and water to some extent. If you are a full time racer on closed MX track then you will be changeing the air filter often anyway, otherwise, leave it be.
My opinion, take it for what its worth.
