Hey guys! I am thinking about selling my Raptor and getting a 2002 Yamaha R6. Couple things I need to know. First off.....how old do you have to be to legally ride a motocycle on the road? One for DSeater......How did you convert your tailights into turnsignal's? What is the lowest price you think I can get a dealer down to? I am just getting ready to turn 16.....am I too young for a bike like this? I want some major gas mileage.....speaking of which.....what do you think the gas mileage is on this....I know it should be alot. What do you think the top-speed of it is? Is it a very fast bike? Will it do some major wheelies? My mom has a '98 Corvette....will it outrun it? Do I really have to worry about other people on the road hitting me? That would hurt I have an awesome truck (I think anyways) and an R6 would look awesome in the back. I really wanted and R1 but it is waaaaay out of my price range. I want to be the absolute coolest kid in school.....big truck...big bike.....big mouth My mom hates motorcycles so that would be another reason to get one

First off, you're right, this isn't the place. Go to sportbikeworld.com. There is a great forum there...better than this one. If it was me, and I was only 15 or 16, I would get a b]USED bike. It seems to me that your personal property is all an image thing with you. Also, if your mom doesn't like bikes and she's paying the bills then don't get the bike. Have you ridden an R6 or an R1 for that matter?? Get a Ninja 250 and be happy with it. OUT

never ridden a streetbike but gotta start sometime.....why not now? I am not about Image.....I was joking about that.....had to use the big mouth joke....that just fit. I have wanted a streetbike since I was 9.....mom always said when I told her I wanted one....."you'll get killed" I really love the looks of the R6 too....and I want an engine that I won't get tired of soon. I already am tired of the raptor....not enough ***** for me Yea right! I love fast stuff!

to wire the brake light as turn signals you wire up a trailer plug converter (I can find you the instructions I used online) It looks much cooler that way! As for wheelies It's completely different that bikes or quads. I can wheelie 1st gear for about 50-80 ft. I have a renthal +2 rear sprocket on order for a bit of help riding longer wheelies in higher gears, also ordered frame sliders (pics will be on my site soon) Your moms 98 vette LS1 will do high 12's in the 1/4 which a R6 will CRUSH, and an R1 will do 9.0 in the 1/4. You must be 16 to ride a bike just like a car. It is a fast bike but if you respect it then you should be fine. I have seen some HUGE wheelies from R6's. I am trying to master stoppies now, can get the back up a few feet. hahaMy R1 and raptor

My opinion is to get a more controllable first street bike. Knowing that your not yet 16...you should get some time on two wheels first before jumping right into a serious sport bike.
But then again...Most modern street bikes are far too much for the street to begin with. The power to weight is un imaginable for most people. And wheelies? Yeah..it will do it. Stoppies? Have fun changing your seals in the forks alot.
For real though..they are fast...all of them...If respected, they can be a blast. If you disrepect it...you will get hurt bad. Plus...wait till you asee what insurance for a 16 year old is going to be for a sport bike. That might change your mind for you.

I recently did exactly what you are thinking about. I bought a 2001 CBR 929 RR and parked my Trinity 420 Banshee. I really enjoy it. This is my first streetbike. I bought the 929 instead of a 600 for several reasons; I weigh 200 lbs so I need the extra cc's. Abernathy's Honda (Union City, Tenn.) wanted $7300 for the CBR 600 or you could get the 929 for $8500-$8800.

They are all very fast. 0-60 mph the 600's are really close to the big ones. According to Cycle World's 600 shootout:

R6 Fuel mileage.....37 mpg
0-60 mph.........2.8 sec
1/4 mile.........10.80 sec @ 128.31 mph
Horsepower.......99.0 bhp @ 12,700 rpm
Torque...........43.7 ft-lbs @ 11,000 rpm
Top Speed........157 mph
SUGGESTED PRICE..$7999.00

In Cycle World's Big Bike Shootout the rated the CBR 929 and R1 as follows:

CBR 929 RR Fuel mileage.....37 mpg
0-60 mph.........2.7 sec
1/4 mile.........10.34 sec @ 137.57 mph
Horsepower.......127.5 bhp @ 10700 rpm
Torque...........67.3 ft-lbs @ 8750 rpm
Top Speed........168 mph
SUGGESTED PRICE..$9999.00
I PAID...........$8800.00

R1 Fuel mileage.....40 mph
0-60 mph.........2.8 sec
1/4 mile.........10.31 sec @ 137.28 mph
Horsepower.......126.9 bhp @ 10450 rpm
Torque...........70.6 ft-lbs @ 8350 rpm
Top Speed........166 mph
SUGGESTED PRICE..$10299.00

Good luck.

Daren

well i think you gotta be 18 and u have to get a special liscense at least i think thats how it is here in NC. im pretty sure and as far as power goes. you wont be dissapointed. one of my friends has an r6 and said he topped out 175-180 or at least thats what the speedometer said. and he had a PASSENGER thats right 175 with 2 people. so i dont think youll be dissapointed wit the power. i know its easy as hell to ride a wheely once u get used to the clutch and its power youll be able to pop it up at least for 100-150 yards. aiight den man hope i helped. -PEACE-

Hey bro, i just recently got out of the sportbike "scene". If you have never ridden a motorcycle or especially a streetbike you prolly are not just goin to want to jump on an R6 and go, this bike tops out at right around 155-160 (speedo might read 175 or 180 but they are usually about 10% off actual speed) and it gets there relatively fast. Another thing, the R6 has a powerband like a 2 stroke and are not good bikes to learn wheelies on, the bike will definatley do a wheelie, i had a friend that did a wheelie on one for 30 miles and another friend that is a professional "stunter" and they are both on R6's, but you can go to any salvage yard and look at the wrecked bikes and most of the R6's have severe tail damage. I dont know how you ride, if you have respect for what you ride you should not have a problem, but dont try to learn too fast and dont get big headed or you will be makin an insurance claim.

And one more thing, yes it will spank your moms vettes ***!!!!

If your already thinking about how long of a wheelie and how fast it is. Probably best to learn on something that isint a crotch rocket. You didnt goto driving school and hop in Ferrari 50.
