I KNOW THIS ISN'T THE PLACE....BUT....DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT STREETBIKES? (R6)
I dont' ever have very many responses to many threads. I don't usually claim to know too much bout nothin but street/sport bikes I have known since I was your age. I got kicked out of my house because I wanted a motorcycle at 17. At 18 I wanted one so bad I was stealing them and going to jail. At 19 I laid that first bike I had down crossing a parking lot at 6:30 in the morning going to football practice in college. Six months later after putting a whole new engine in it a lady pulled out in front of me and I hit her car and laid it down once more. I went thru bikes left and right till I was 27 when I got my first true sport bike CBR F4. I had that one till one day a lady and her family in a big car decided they needed into the HOV lane (here in Texas) and I ran into the back of her going about 50. If the passenger had not seen me thru the side mirror sumbling down the road they never would have stopped. Age 28 I felt that CBR was very cursed and traded it for a Ducati 748s bright freakin yellow so all could see me coming. Four days later I was in an emergency room after a car ran a red light. Totalled my beautiful bike into so many pieces that they could not recover half the parts. everytime I got on a bike I wore gloves, a helmet and a protective riding jacket but, that didn't keep that car from snapping my left femur clean in half. I have a rod now inside my femur that runs from my hip to my knee and a lot of scars to go with it. After I could stand again I got back on a bike but it was an Aprilia 250 racing bike. I figured if there was no oncoming traffic I was gonna be safe. But it didn't take long and I was on the street again. Thus enters the R6. I had her shipped down from Maryland from a fella that raced it and I was back on the street. Couple of months later I sold it and bought my 03 Raptor. I have 2 kids and a family and I love to ride. I am sitting here typing you this note with my right leg in a cast now with a ruptured achilies tendon from racing my Raptor (quadcross). What I am trying to say is 2 wheels or 4 you gotta have complete respect for your machines or you'll end up like so many misfortunate others. Wheelies are not important, stoppies are not important. Staying alive on a motorcycle or atv is a challenge everytime you climb on one. While I was in the trama room after my Raptor wreck they brought in a girl who was a passenger on a bike with no helmet and shorts on she was bleeding from multiple lacerations all over her body, she was also drunk. Right before they wheeled me out at 2:30 in the morning another fella was brought in on the brink of death, he was not wearing a helmet either. For the most part riding was a blast and I always had fun. Riding is like any drug, it is an addiction.
I know that all this might be falling on def ears or boring to alot of you but it's life, my life. Don't ever take it for granted.

In California you need a special license to ride a motorcycle....it think its called the M1 class..I thought about buying a new R1, but when I got some insurance quotes I changed my mind..my bike payment would have been around 150 a month and my insurance would have been close to 500 a month!!!! And I'm 24 years old...imagine yourself at 16....I think i would faint if I knew how much it would cost you....

Your 16 years old. youve never ridden a street bike.
(I know you said you were joking... but you werent and you know it..)
You want to be the coolest kid at school with that new R6.
It would be STUPID for you to get an R6.
1: The R6 is not a beginner bike. It is very twitchy around corners and is for EXPERIENCED RIDERS.
2: The R6 has too much power for a beginner. That is why there is such a thing as the ninja 250 and 500.
3: You WILL... absolutely, positively drop it. You drop a brand new R6, you dont wanna know the cost to fix.
4: You sound like the kinda guy that wants to cruise and ride fast in a straight line. The R6's home is on the race track, or
the curvy road too the race track.
5: SQUID.
6: If you meant what you said about it NOT being about 'image', then you WILL NOT get an R6 as a first bike.
You will get a much smaller bike. The funniest thing is watching a newbie rider on a SS.

Buy the smaller ninja or even a used 500 interceptor like I have.It is very mellow and cheap $1000 or so.Most people on the street see sportbike styling and automaticly think it is fast and cool.Do you think most women know the difference between a 500 and 1000?When I was in school my dad had a Hondamatic talk about a gutless bike! But the thing was immaculate and guaranteed if I stopped by a group of girls one would want to ride. They also dont appreciate getting the crap scared out of them so bad that their knees are shakin when they get off the bike.So what is the need for all the power?Let the other guys show off to the other guys. You can take thir girlfreinds for a ride while they are showing off!
