I recently purchased a Sportsman 500, AWSOME MACHINE. I have actually tried to get it stuck but have yet to do it. Anyways, I wanted to get a Warn winch, but I was afraid that if it were to be submerged in a creek or any water, it would not work anymore. Does anyone know if they are water proof or resistant?

I've got the warn 2000 on my 99SP500, put it on in april. I too was worried about water damage, but I rode all spring and summer thru some really swampy stuff, no problems at all. Had it submerged several times, even ran it while partially under, it pulled out another quad, no problem. The one thing I did do was coat the relay and electrical posts with silicone sealant. I don't know if it helps, but the mud washes right off. I also spray the winch down with the hose when I wash the quad, it doesn't seem to do any damage.

gO TO WARN.com there is a story about how a guy was riding his quad and he broke threw the ice about 30 ft from shore. he used his warn to winch his sunken quad to shore. So does it work under water?
