whats the deal with after market front bumpers?

Looking to get one for my 400. They give you something bigger to grab on to, wider, thicker, better grip, for when you get stuck. Believe me, trying to get the front end up when its burried in mud is not fun, and I don't go looking for the mud, it is just below the nice grass field or trail that I am on.

Every sport quad Honda has made has the same basic design. Its just too small for protection to the plastic and frame. Go out hit tree and smash your stock one. Then look at the price Honda will want to charge you for a stock one. You'll get an aftermarket one real fast.

yeah, but only if the brackets that support the bumper are strong enough to matter. Could it in fact be better to have a bumper that takes the abuse rather than a stronger one that transfers the shock to the undercarriage?
