Need help with 400ex teather kill switch ASAP
#1
I have had a pro-design kill switch for a while, and want to hook it up, and since the instructions it came with aren't very detailed, I was hoping someone could give me a good explanation on what to do. I already have all the plastics off while i'm doing a valve-adjust.

It's very easy to hook up the Pro Design kill switch. Here's how I installed mine... First, look at the wiring near the CDI and find a black wire with a yellow stripe--this is the wire that the CDI sends the signal for the coil to fire. Using one of the wires from your kill switch, tap into this black and yellow stripe wire by cutting away some of the insulation or using one of those plastic tap things. Then hook the other wire coming from the kill switch to ground--I used the bolt where the L-bracket is for the upper fender mount. That's it! When you pull the tether it shunts the coil signal to ground which immediately kills the motor.
I've been told you can also wire in-line with either the key switch or run switch, but I advise against those should you ever lose or break the tether--if it's lost/broke you need to remove the both of the connections and re-attach the original wiring. With the CDI method, all you have to do is cut the tap wire and you're running again.

I hooked mine up to the black with yellow stripe wire by the coil. As your sitting on the bike it is on the left side under the black side panal. I took the side panel off and there was already a connector there and i just pulled the rubber cover thing back and hooked the positive wire on it and then i put the ground where the coil bolts on. Everything works so i think i did it right and i didn't have to cut a wire so i can just take it off easy if i want to.
