Ive went riding on my new 400ex about a dozen times so far, I've had two nails causing flat back tires and they are wearing very quickly also. They also dont work very good in mud. Let me know what you think about these tires.

 

Within the first 20 miles on my 400, I slashed a rear tire open real bad on some rock. After I plugged the tire (from the inside), I really havent had a problem since. The stock tires work very well in almost every condition...hard pack, sand, mud, snow, everything.

I have a set of Holeshots and a set of Realtors, but I never use them. I like the stock sneakers better, except in the deep snow, where you really need some kind of paddle-tire.

 

Mags give the stock radials on th 400 a very high rating. Ihave a 300 and the tires work great so I can imagine 400 tires being good also.

 

I'm sure that there will be many, many differing opinions on this. Overall I found the stockers to be a very good stock tire.

Yes, I had flats and had to plug them. Yes, the sidewalls are soft and rolled a lot in the hard turns. Yes, they are very poor in mud and get gummed up easily. But Honda had to fit the 400ex with a compromise all-around tire that fit most people's needs in most conditions. I think that the stockers meet that criteria.

In reality, each type of riding requires a different tire to be optimum. Mud, sand,hardpack, etc. all require a different type of tire to have optimum performance.

 

I slashed a sidewall within 2 weeks on my stock Ohtsu. I thought they were pretty good up to that point. My problem, I think, was I was running the recommended tire pressure. It is too low.

 

I like the stock 400ex tires i wish they made them in 18inch

 

I have used mine for MX, sand, mud, hardpack, and snow and am pretty happy with them all around. I also have holeshots on a 300 and like the stock 400 tire better. I havn't had any problems with them

 

i hate those tires. i drove my friends 400ex for the first time a few weeks ago, lol i was coming around a turn and almost spun out did a sweet power slide. there a lot of fun to do donuts and power slides with but for going up inclines, mud, or trails they blow more ballz then a 2 dollar *****

I run 5+ PSI in my stock 400EX meats and have no probs with rolling or the like. You are correct, the stock PSI is TOO LOW, and will cause premature punctures, rolling of the sidewall, etc.

I repeat, the Ohtsus on my 400EX are great. I have owned MANY an ATV tire on my LT230, 250X and now 400EX, and by far, I like the stock 400EX's tires the best in ALL conditions except deep deep mud & snow.

But thats what the Realtors are for!

 

Man I guess I am getting picky on tires, because I would prefer a whole garage full of choice depending on where I am going riding. Right now I use paddle tires for the Dunes and Bandits for the rocky trails. Now I need and MX tire for when I go to the track. Do you think the old lady would mind another set of tires and rims in the garage? [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif[/img]
