twist or thumb

I much prefer a twist throttle. I get a better grip with my right hand, can keep two fingers on the brake, and never get a cramp. I also find it's easyer to make hard right turns under power. With a thumb throttle I have to reach around, back under the grip, to stay on the gas. With a twist I don't have to make any contortions to keep the power on. Also, it's alot easyer for me to go through whoops smoothly with a twist. It does take some getting used to, though.

I started racing snowmobiles when I was 11 years old, so that got me started with thumb throtles. I raced motorcycles for years in the mid to late 90's, so I got really used to twist throtles.
For quad applications, I find it easier to climb from side to side on a quad while sliding around turns with a thumb throttle. I can maintain much more precise throtle control while changing body possition on rough terrain as well. On 2 strokes that are ridden with the throtle all the way open or all the way closed, a twist is ok. For finese riding, I'll take the thumb.

Twist throttle for me too. I ride snowmobiles in the winter and I am used to both types of throttles but the twist just feels better on the quad than the thumb. I feel much more confident holding on with my whole hand instead of just my fingers. It does take a little getting used to but once you do you will never go back. (I guess the years of riding dirt bikes tainted me though).

Twist for me and twist for the wife too. My buddies always tell me that they can't ride my quad because they are afraid of going in whoops. Their reason is this: they are afraid that they will lean back and hold on too tight and twist the throttle all the way open. That is such stupid thinking and I tell them that too. Their beliefs are based on something they heard. This makes them ignorant.
Buy whatever throttle you want. If it doesn't work out sell it on ebay.

I find it very hard to use the front brakes on bumpy mx tracks when turning using the thumb so I made the switch ASAP. twist is better, i have a vortex throttle that you only turn half as far as the turbo throttle to get full throttle.

I dunno if I'd say it's THAT dumb, to be worried about accidentally leaning back on a twist throttle and really open it up - I've done it. I've noticed the only people who like twist are people who done extensive dirt bike riding in the past, and not even all of those people like it better. I've rode dirt bikes but not a lot and I definatley like the thumb throttle better. I think it's safe in saying that there is no right answer to this question, only opinions. If a person does go with twist, they will want to take it easy for a while until they are used to it. Twist throttle definatly isn't a bad thing, and I know people from this forum and in person who use them without any hint of problems. It is definatly something anyone can learn to use, if they want to.
