twist or thumb

I definately prefer thumb. I feel much more in control. I dont know why, but i cant get comfortable on a twist throtttle. I havent rode on one extensively, but the time i have spent on one, i didn't like at all. Ill stick with my thumb.

definity thumb for me,
i ride both alot, i have my quads, and i have my 2x2 dirtbike thing, among other twist throttles i have ridden,
twist is a pain, because , unless you want to cramp your wrist, when your holding the throttle at a steady speed, you have to let go , or hold it with yoru fingers and move your hand up so its straight, its annoying to because its to easy to hit a bump and accidently give it to much throttle

Well,I learned (and have ridden for10 years) on dirtbikes, also ride a snowmobile during winter, so when I got my shee I put the Motion Pro twist on. At first, I found it difficult to use, no finesse, sticky throttle, forearm cramps..etc etc. I thought I was gonna get used to it...NOT!! Last weekend, I switched back to the original thumb, and rediscovered my banshee!!! Wheelyingis easy, fine throttle control in any condition...just perfect feel of the bike...and a little stiff too, but I'll try it on MX, and see if I leave it this way or not.
PS...I can't figure out how to do wheelies with a twist...

I totally agree with zorro.
I too was born and bred on dirtbikes. I thought the switch to twist would be more comfortable.
It wasn't. I has to be the seat height - much lower on a quad. Throttle control was much more difficult with a twist. Moreover, racing harescrambles, I would get really bad arm pump, no matter how much I worked on my forearm muscles. I was riding much slower with the twist, cause I just couldn't hold on anymore.
Now that I'm back on the thumb throttle - no more arm pump - none. Also, throttle control is great. I really can't see the argument of "your whole hand wrapped around the grip," with regards to the twist. I just haven't found it to be an issue.
Also, rolling on the throttle accidentally with a twist - it does happen - even with experienced riders. It happened many times when my arm pump was at it's worst. It can get a little scary riding in tight woods while participating in a harescramble.

I race motorcycles, the quad thing is just an extension of the R&D here at the shop. I like the thumb throttle, but I'm going to try the twist too before I pass judgement. On the flat track, the thumb is good, but I had a problem with it on the MX track, where I think I'd prefer twist.

I personally grew up on quads (although I am still growing) and having a thumb throttle. When my brother got the dirtbike and I started riding it I got used to it. I like both of them but I wouldn't put a twist throttle on a quad nor would I put a thumb throttle on a dirtbike. Its like ogre said, it's probably the seat height. I try to imagine myself on a quad with twist throttle and it just doesn't seem like it would be right.
