first start it up and hold it wide open for 5 minutes then.....

But seriouly brake it in the same way you did when you bought it from HONDA .

ALSO back to the topic a good rule of thumb is take it easy for 10 hours , thats how long my friends and i have all broken in our bikes .

phaskell,

I would run 1 to 2 tanks of gas through it before I really ran it hard. I wouldn't rev it out too much in a gear, or hold it wide open for more than two or three seconds. You migth get away with more, but don't run your 400EX wide open all day. You should also change the oil after a few rides.

That's the best I can tell you. I suggest that you ask someone very knowledgeable such as Pam or Gabe on this forum. They can probably offer more than I can. Good luck with your break in.

avoid full throttle starts, and don't pin the throttle for more than 3 seconds. i am not real sure for how long you hafta follow those guidlines

I can not see you dudes wasting time and money installing a xr cam.I put all around cams in from WB & Web with no problems,no heavy valve springs,no harden rockers.Bin racing MX & Hare Scrambles for 6 mouths, adj valves twice. No problems yet.(Brake in for cam,do not let it run under 2000 rpms for 30 min).Start it,let get hot(not over heat),let cool down.Do that for the 30 min, drain your oil & filter.Add new oil and filter and go riding, easy for 8 to 10 hours.Have fun and GOOD LUCK

Pineman is correct on the proper break-in procedure for the cam. However the all-around cam from White Bros. is the same cam that Web offers (Web makes the cam.) Surprise the all-around cam is a XR400 grind cam.

Hey Phaskell, When you finally do break it in, let me know how you like it. Youve done the exact thing that I want to do to my motor (well maybe a different cam) So let me know how much you like it. ALso, where did you get it, and how much does it cost?

Derek
