Anybody know the stock decible level of the 500 'Cats? Also, the new '02 muffler appears to be re-designed, has the exhaust spout coming directly out the bottom, which should make it a little more quiet yet than the older model 'Cats (referring to the post about adding the 90 degree elbow). Any idea or knowledge of whether or not this muffler is any less restrictive (i.e. more powerful) than the older design muffler? And, think it would be a "replacment" item for the '00 model-provided pipe-in is of same size diameter, hangers can relatively easily be modified or made.

Sorry for the questions-need a REALLY quiet exhaust like stock sound, yet don't have anything to compare that to a claimed 96 decible aftermarket pipe-which I'm sure is definately much louder. AC exhaust is among the most restrictive out there for some reason, clearing it up SHOULD really improve performance and power output, though is it possible without sounding like a damn Boeing 747 airliner??? I rode with a Yamaha YZ250 not too long ago, with FMF pipe and muffler with silencer-that thing was ear piercing loud! When he shut that thing off, I could ride around, drive right up on deer and elk. The minute he fired that thing up, all sign of wildlife completely vanished-like ghosts, I swear he could wake the dead with that thing. Course the pure alchohol smell of his race gas didn't help either-that thing stunk to high hell, I was "getting high" of his exhaust from a mile behind him, terrible! Had a splitting headache after about a half hour of riding with him.

Also, I noticed the Highlifter kit for the 'Cats is different than any of the other kits for the other brands-it comes with a racing series pipe, rather than the "silencer" option, or regular IDS2-whatever it is. Why is that? Does the other style not make enough difference in power? I would imagine the "racing series" is hella loud compared to the other. Just a thought.

Thanks guys,

Mike

cowboy i had a supertrapp ids2 race series on my 01 400 4x4 ac.I bought it from highlifter. It was the only pipe available,it is really loud but helped low end grunt and throttle response. When i went riding in a group they either put me in the back of the pack,or stayed 20 ft away. The supertrapp will blow exhaust 10 to 15 ft behind you.Im getting ready to trade for a new 02 500 ac so i took the pipe off, maybe i can use it on my new 02.They are loud but you will notice a difference.

Hey buddy,
I took my spark arrestor out, and it seemed to add a little life to my quad. I didn't actually remove the tip from my muffler, I just cut the arrestor off of the tip and then reinstalled the tip. I isn't really any louder then before. It has a more "explosive" sound then it used to, but its not really louder. But it starts quicker, idles smoother, and seemed to gain some power as well. That spark arrestor has to add a lot of back pressure to the exhaust system. The thing is really restrictive!

Supertrapp only sells the Arctic Cat pipe with the racing core because it offers a BIG difference in power over the quiet core. You can buy it separately from the pipe, but if you buy the pipe as an Arctic Cat design-- it has a raceing core.
