What mods, if any, have you done since you were neck and neck? Just asking.

Do a compression test on it. Your rings could be worn out. Check your reeds also. They could be worn out. They should be tight on the cage and not open easily. Hope this helps.

When is the last time you intalled a new plug and cleaned your air filter? It can really make a big difference. Is your fuel system clean? Sometimes its easy to forget the simple things.

Sorry i forgot to mention it ,i put in a new plug and cleaned my k&n the same time i put in my strap. We only took a short ride after that to try them out.No dust.Meangreenmachine when we take off from a rolling startat 10 mph we are equal.I have only 3800 miles on it and my bike still feels strong only no "snap" in high gear from takeoff.I have thought about the reeds but do not really know how they function .Thanks. It used to loft the front wheels on takeoff in high and know it only does it in low.

Yah,
the same thing happened to my 00 Xplorer 400cc 4x4.A turtle from 0-10mph THAN ''WHAM''she'd start taking off really well.We found out that the primary sheeves were worn out[VERY FLAT] at the very bottom on both sides of the primary clutch.Your sheeves should taper out equally. If they are worn on the botton sides like mine were, this will cause the problem you describe.

ALSO,
check your exaust downspout and make SURE it is not clogged with mud.Mine was and she ran like crap.I took a screwdriver and cleaned the downspout out and she ran like nuts again.

Hey Bill Bosty Here I know this is a stupid question But where are the Primary sheaves located?? and what did you have to compare it to, to know that it was flat?? I think that I am having the same problem, If I am ideling it up a hill at about 10-15 mph and then gunn it it jusr feels like it's not hooking up right and then once it builds up a little more speed wham it takes off!! But mine only has about 650 miles on it. If you could please give me a little more detail about how you found your Problem Thanks Alot Matt

Matt,
you will need to remove the black cover that is covering the clutches, located on the left side of the engine.Remove your belt to.

Your primary clutch sheeves can than be inspected.Your primary clutch should be ''ramped'' and have NO flat spots on it.You can check for this by feeling the ramped part of the sheeves while the belt is off.The sheeves is the part of the clutch that the belt rides upon acceleration.

Your belt rides up the primary clutch sheeves[front clutch] and down the secondary clutch sheeves[rear clutch].Any flat spots on either of these clutch sheeves will account for slower acceleration.

When i have time i will check out my clutch sheaves,"if" they are worn flat, can they be machined or will i have to buy new plates? How do i tell if my reed valves are worn out? Should i buy new stock reeds or spring more cash for the V-force reeds.I plan on taking out the plugs under my muffler to let it breath a little more and rejetting. That way come hunting season i can put them back in(less noise).I don't know maybe the V-force,unplugged exaust,k&n filter and new jetting might help me hang on a little to the new 650,660's that should be riding around here pretty soon. Thanks again. I know that i'm asking alout of questions but i really can not afford to pay 30$ an hour every time i need a little work on my quad.Besides i love trying to get the maximum out of my bike.
