I have sell my R because i cant afford to hop it up. I paid to much for it because it was in good original shape.
Now i am going to get a dirtbike.
I would rather ride quads still and the only way is if i find a beaten up 250r that doesnt even have to run. or have a motor.
DO ANY YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A R THE NEED THAT IS LIKE THAT?
What have u seen them cost?
what parts do i need on an R like the brakes and wiring?
I am going to use this just for racing i dont care if it has plastic, or even missign parts lik a0rm swingamr and axle. I am just going to replace them.

I found and bought an R like the one you describe. It didn't run, the rear caliper was locked up so you couldn't even roll it, all four tires were flat, EVERY SINGLE bushing and bearing was shot, the carb was frozen shut, the front wheel bearings were shot, ... I think you get the picture.

Anyway I got it for $900. I took it immediately to my local Honda dealer and he offered me $1500 cash for it right there - that is when I knew I was on to something.

I am now at the $7000 mark in my restoration with NO regrets at all.

It was one of those perfect stories.

I run into an older guy in a tavern and we get to talking about dirtbikes because I was in a cast at the time. He mentions he has an old four wheeler for sale that his dead son used to own but he doesn't know what kind it is (sad story - car wreck many years back). I say I am not into quads since they are mostly fourstrokes. He says he thinks this one is a 2 stroke and that it is white. I made arrangements to go look at it thinking it may be an R. Well - it was. He wanted $1000 even and I could only get him down to $900. I bought it on the spot that day.

Mine is not restored to original either - it will be a full on MX racer when I am done. In fact I get my motor back from the builder early next week.

I just want to let you know, it's out there for you. Just put an add in your local newspaper, and see what comes up. Thats how i got mine, and i only paid $500!!! The chasis was in excellent condition, but the motor was in a box, and torn down. Literally in every piece you could imagine, as in here's one of the gears of the transmission....oh look, over in the grease over there is a shifter fork..lol. But anyway, i've been working on it all summer, and my engine is completely together minus a piston...i'm still waiting on it since it's an 86. Pray for me that it cranks guys. Oh yeah, i got a fmf turbine core silencer, and cobra exhaust for free when i bought it from the guy. The deal was sooooo good. So far i only havev $700 in parts invested, and if it cranks, i'll have a nice running R, for $1200!! Oh yeah, all the engine parts i replaced, i went back with genuine honda from service honda.

I bought one several years ago in the early 90s that was locked in second gear and needed a new top end. The rear plastic was cracked, and after I got it together the rear axle bearings ended up being shot so basically I had a nice 250R for less than $900 end up selling it for $1100 like a dope.

I really would love to find another one. I like your Idea Hondaman I think I might try it too. Hopefully, I might end up being suprised what is laying around.
