I have heard that after a certain vin # yammy fixed the tranny issue. I want to know if anybody with a later model had tranny issues with your vin 10k and above. If so list your vin or approx. your vin and what happened. Cuz if nobody is having problems with the later models I would rather spent that 500bux on a exhaust. Let me know thanks.

I have a later model year Raptor too. I'd suggest getting the Extended Warranty. That way if something happens to go wrong, you're covered.

Mine is a 15,000 + model and I will not purchase extented warranty. I have never purchased extented warranty on any of the machines or cars, trucks that I have purchased. Now that I have never spent any money on the extented warranties which would have been in the thousands of dollars I have won the gamble and I can afford now to fix the machine if something does happen. These extended warranties that you can even purchase on an $89.00 microwave are the biggest money making things to come along since selling stock shares on the Brooklyn bridge. The amount of money the YES program brings in for Yamaha and the dealership and the amount that is paid out, they come out light years ahead. This is a guess but I would say for every dollar they receive The YES program pays out 20 to 25 cents. I wish I could get that kind of return on investment. If you tend to run your machine very hard then maybe you should purchase the YES program. Myself I use my machines but I don't abuse them. I vote NO on any extented warranty. CHET

js660r, can you prove that they aren't any updates in the transmission from the earlier models? It seems most of the transmission problem are with the Raptors with serial numbers below 10,000. Something has had to change. Just my opinion.

My opinion on the tranny/VIN issue is that someone just made it up on here and that no one has hard facts on this. Do you realize you would have to find everyone with a raptor and ask them whats wrong with it. Nobody has asked me. I could care less everyone new in advance that this is a first year bike and no bike will be perfect! As far as the Warranty, unless you ride to the extreme and put lots of hours on your bike per week, I wouldnt get it. Its just a barganing tool for Yamaha. I would rather have mods put on my bike after the 6 month warranty was up. Just my opinion all.

I did get the warranty but I have had no problems
at all no carbs blowing off tranny still seems fine
I ride 2to3 times a week hard riding too
you saved about a grand on the 01 model
hell if it breaks you saved a grand so just
fix it with that and if it don't break you
