Honda 125m ATC
#1
The other day i was out riding and i found an old 1984 Honda ATC 125M, it was in this place. I took a look at it the gave it a start and with about the 5th pull it started up. I then put it in gear and as i shifted it it jerked like when you shift and i go to give it gas and then nothing happens. I change gears and nothin then in about fourth gear at full rpms it finally inched folward.but i was the stoped by a rock that was about a 2 inches tall.
I would like to kno what is the problem? and has any one else ever had a simalar problem. And i would be interested with any information about them like how many gears does it have, how fast are they, and what does the "M" stand for in the 125"m"? and any other info about them. THANX!

We have a 125M. I'm not sure what the M stands for, the top speed would be about 40 mph running good. It has 5 gears. We bought it about 2 years ago and experienced similar problems but not as severe as you have described. My husband had all the gears replaced. We bought new plastics, new seat etc., it runs great. After that, my husband got a 4-Wheeler and that was it for the 125M. It's now for sale.

The 84 125m is a 4 speed. My guess is you have an automatic clutch problem. That would be the first place I'd look. There is an adjustment screw(inside of a nut)on the right side engine cover. If you can't adjust it enough to make a difference, it may be time for a clutch replacement.

As for top speed, I'd say about 35-38. The 85 was tested by 3 Wheeler magazine at 39 mph, but it is a 5 speed. I enjoy riding it no matter how fast or how slow it goes. They're fun.(uhhh....for the kids that is...yeah, that's what I meant)

The one I own is an 84. I know it's a 4 speed with no reverse.. The test magazine in front of me shows the 85 as having a 5 speed with super low and reverse. It does not have the dual range tranny like the 84 I have.

I think M means electric start. are you sure the hi/lo switch is fully engaged in one or the other?

I have a 1984 Honda 125M three wheeler and that thing will not die. It has been upside down floating in the river, buried in mud, and still starts up on the first or second pull. I am very pleased with mine, except for the front end bouceing vigorously around 35 mph. That is my only complaint.
