I have an 87' 250X and the rear calipers pistion is stuck all the way out , it wont go back in , Ive hit it with a hammer I used plyers to try and skish it back in , Ive ever sweared at it and nothing worked PLEASE HELP ME I REALLY REALLY want to go riding tomorow and need this fixed ASAP PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!

 

Try using a C-clamp and just tighten it down slowly. That's what I always use. You may have to open your bleeder screw to take the pressure off but then you may need to bleed the brake afterwards. It shouldn't be sticking like that in the 1st place so you really ought to pull the caliper off and find out why it's binding. If you're lucky it's just dirty and will work ok with some cleaning.

 

Sounds as if the piston has come completely out of the caliper and needs to be repositioned so that it will slide back in place. If so, lets just hope you haven't damaged the rear surface so that it will never slide back in. The tolerances are very close, otherwise brake fluid would be forced past the seals.

Crawdad is correct, a c-clamp works a heck of a lot better than a hammer. Also, try to apply equal pressure with the c-clamp by laying something (small wrench) across the top surface of the piston. Again because of the tolerances, you may create a leak by applying pressure only to the edge of the piston with the c-clamp so that it is being pushed more at an angle than straight back in.

Funny, I've never used anything but a c clamp for compressing calipers. I guess I now know not to use a bigger hammer when I get stuck without a C clmap.

 

Yea I should have used more comman scence but I am only 14 and don't have much[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img] Also this is my first atv with disc brakes , or working brakes for that matter. Well now I have another problem , my brakes totally suck now , they wont lock up unless i really stomp on the pedal.

 

1. Do you have enough fluid in them
2. You might have air in the line and need to bleed it.

 

I had thought of that but how would this happen when I never opend the lines up to any air and yes It has the proper amount of fluid.

 

It happened when you pushed the piston back in. Bleed them and they will be alright.

 

Oh I started to bleed em and I guess there was alot of preasure or something and the damn fluid got in my F*****G eye that sucked ! I guess I will get some goggles or just go with crapy brakes.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]
