Was on the bluetrax Yamaha forum. They are experiancing problems with there Raptor trannies, and pretty much the same other stuff as what I read here. They found a link that sends a message directly to the Yamaha Pres, thought you guys may be interested in that. I sent them a letter as a potential buyer, conserned about the problems I am reading about, the lack of consideration and respect their customers are getting. You may want to do the same. Here it is:
http://www.zwire.com/site/news.asp?b...;nav_sec=42774
That should take you right to the web site, you dont need a password just follow the directions as you go.
I am looking to buy a Raptor in the future, maybe a 2002 or 2003. So this benefits all potential buyers as well.

i sent a letter. this is what i had to say:

I am concerned about the durability of my 2001 Yamaha 660r raptor fourwheeler. I know of numerous individuals whom have had serious problems with this first year atv. It is a known fact that the transmission on these vehicles is prone to seizing causing heartache and grief, and not to mention injury to these individuals when such incident happens. Most of these individuals I know of have had their machines fixed under warranty but what happens to the rest of us when the warranty runs out? Are we supposed to eat a repair bill of at least a thousand dollars because of a faulty transmission? But I am afraid that this is just a drop in the hat to all the other problems of this atv. Many, many clutches have failed prematurely and people are bending rear axles left and right. The 2001 Yamaha raptor is notorious for having bad fitting carburetor boots, which often time come apart from the connection and leaving the owner stranded many miles from safety. Now I know that these sound like serious issues and I assure you that they are! Now I could go on and on about more problems with these machines (weak tie rod ends, poorly designed air filter setup, etc.) but I know that Yamaha knows what they have to do to fix these problems. Its just way too obvious that these machines are a lemon and we demand that we be compensated! I want Yamaha to offer a buy back on all 2001 Yamaha 660 raptors. I think that we should be offered full reimbursement for what we paid for these machines or a brand new and extremely improved raptor.
