Hi, don't much about 3-wheelers. But would someone give there opinion on this model? I have a chance to but one for 500.00.A buddy of mine,His grandma bought it new in 84 and he got it form her 5 years ago and rode it alittle still has original tires and runs really good. This would be for my 11 year old who has alittle experince on our trx250x honda 4 wheeler. Would this 3-wheeler be a good machine for him?

What model is it? I had a Honda ATC110 when I was 11 and it was great. I wouldn't put an 11 year old on anything bigger than a 110-125. You need to use your body weight more to ride an ATC and small kids on big 3wheelers are asking for trouble.

I hate to say it, but 3 wheelers are REALLY dangerous. (I have 3 of them, and love each one!) I would be very hesitant to put my kid (if I had one) on a 3 wheeler though. A simple mistake can cause a really bad accident on a threewheeler. I flipped a ATC110 over backwards when I was 14, and I ended up in the hospital for a few days with a broken cheekbone, and A LOT of stitches. I rode it for about a year before I got so disrespectful.
I just rolled my 350X down a pretty big mine hill about 2 months ago. I can't believe it! I have been riding threewheelers for years, I relaxed a little, and rode my 400EX for the last couple years, then when I tried the 3wheeler again, IT GOT ME!!! I didn't get hurt, and the trike didn't get damaged, but I was lucky, that time! I know this sport is dangerous, but the three wheelers add an extra dimension of danger. I really think the kids are safer on a motorcycle or mini quad.
For instance, a threewheeler is far more tippy than a quad. A kids natural instinct is to put their foot down when it starts to tip. I don't care if you tell them a million times, they are still going to put their foot down when it tips, and run over their own leg, or possbily get drug right down underneath. I have seen it happen, I did it myself the first time I rode a 185s when I was about 12.
I am not saying that a kid WILL get hurt for certain on a threewheeler, I am just saying the odds are greatly in favor of an accident compared to a quad. If a kid has been riding a quad, and is somewhat experienced, they are going to jump on a threewheeler like they know what they are doing, and BAM, it will get them good! Riding a threewheeler is far and away more difficult and different than a quad.
Hope this helps.
You didn't say what the model of the trike was, but my brother-in-law just sold a pair of '85 250SX threewheelers for about $1400 each. I saw a '86 350X a while back advertised for $2000. I have seen 125M, and ATC110 going for 600-700 around here. No, I won't sell any of my trikes!

Not more than 1 month ago I bought an ATC 110 for my 13 year old. I didn't pay much for it and I wanted him to get used to riding on something without tons of power. The cool thing about the 90/110 is the dual range tranny. In low it is just like a tank. In high it will go at a pretty good clip. Parts are always available on eBay. When they run, they run great. When they don't run they need a lot to get them running again. Since I was a kid I have owned probably 8 of these three wheelers. They are a lot of fun BUT they are tippy. The good thing about them is that they are small and relatively slow. I have spent a lot of time directing my kid on how to ride and have not moved to the next level of difficulty until I'm sure that he can handle it. We spent 3 or 4 days just working on turning and small bumps. Now we're working on how to navigate ruts and stuff like that. If he starts going too fast for conditions or sticks his leg out, it gets put away until he can figure out why he made the mistake and how he could have avoided it. I am still suffering from a leg injury I got on my atc back in 86 so I don't want my kid to have to go thru that. I'm sure most obedient kids can use atc's without getting hurt just like any other ATV.
