today me and my friends went mudding.we found a large mudhole and no one wanted to go through it except a guy on a 280 suzuki 4x4.he didnt get very far and bottomed out.I tried it but half way throuh it started sputuring.I made it but couldnt figure why it was sputuring.as soon as I came out it quit.I tried it twice more and the same thing would happen.I checked the breather and there was no water.has anyone had this happen to them or know what causes it?

 

Most likely mud/water entered your carb somehow(maybe through carb overflow hose which is how it got in my carb).Clean out your carb. If u dont want to take tha carb apart pour a gallon of Av gas(extremely high octane gas with no lead used in airplanes)if u can get some. i put av gas in mine and it ate up the mud inside and has ran great eversense.

 

I have a 1999 Grizzly and I too have experienced the same sputtering problems while spinning my tires in the mud or when pulling others out of the mud. I'm not positive why it happens, but I think the carb loads up with too much gas and begins to misfire. I replaced my air filter with a K&N with an outerwear and turned in the mixture screw about a 1/2 to 3/4 turn and I don't seem to have the problem anymore. My spark plug is still really black so I know I haven't leaned it out too much. Also, if you hit alot of water going fast the steam that rises will also cause the Grizzly to sputter. I think this is because the steam has no where to go due to the heat guards on the sides so it gets sucked into the carb. The best solution is to buy a Honda, ha ha! I have a 450ES as well and it never lets me down.
