Spoke to NYS forest rangers
#1
I was at the NY state fair in Syracuse on fri and the forest rangers had a stand there. There was a phamplet on the counter about the use of atv's. My buddy and I asked them what is the deal with atv's on state land. The younger man replied there not allowd and that's it (he was obviously against them) but the older guy was very helpful. He said the most important thing that we have to do is show our numbers by starting small clubs than getting them all togther as one big state orginazation. Obviously it is not going to be a easy thing to do and it is not going to happen over night, there has to be alot of volinteer work and eventually you have to get someone to lobby for us.
The last thing he said to us was it will eventullay happen but help yourselvs by getting togther. This is not for ny but for all states.
If you belong to a club great but if u don't join one asap. If you dont have one start one. (yes I know nowone has time to but if out sport is important to u have to try to make some time.

I live here in Syracuse, well actually about 7 miles south. We have some trails here but the people in the town are all against ATV's. I mean just crossing roads is a hard task, Because the cops are all over us like a bum on a bologna sandwitch. I would love to start a club and I have done lots of think about it. But there is always something that messes something up with people wanting ATV's on their land. Now If I do start a club it would be tough, fighting for places for us to ride because of the people who own the land and the snowmobile club. But if we could change every ones mines about these things we could have marked and aproved trails for miles and miles. From my house now I could get close to the domw for cryin out loud, but since I am not from that part of town I dont like goin there becuase you dont know when a trail might be closed or blocked off. But you are right if we had a club these problems might not be as big of a deal to everyone.

Why shouldn't they open it up since I pay taxes that make their paychecks possible. Really pisses me off that a few old goats have total control and somehow think they are god. I ride and don't rip stuff up or ride where I shouldn't be. I don't leave trash laying around either. I pay tons of taxes and don't really get much in return except paying for people not working but collect their full saleries just because they work for the state. If that didn't happen we could buy more atv land than you could imagine.

springdrl,
Ignore the prople who make stupid comments and listen to what people like gabe have to say. I hope that you realise that the people that want you and me to stop hunting are mostly the same people that want to stop all of us from riding.
Your no better than the people who make stupid coments on this forum if u think u are any better than the rest of us cause u just use your quad for transportation.

My only concern is with the damage that is being left behind on public lands by ATV riders and the impact it has made and continues to make on those who govern these areas. Just as it is with those of us who hunt by different methods, we are all in this together as ATV owners so that the mistakes of one group can and often does create hardships on others in the group. You might say that I view the game poacher and the unlawful ATV rider as just alike in that they refuse to accept their responsibility to behave in a manner that brings benefit to their respective sport. I would be just a eager to call the Game Warden on a poacher as I would to call the Forest Ranger when seeing someone riding their ATV in an unlawful manner. There is nothing about expecting people to obey the law that makes one better than anyone else. It is simply the right thing to do.
Again, I truly wish to see more public land being made available to ATV riders for all types of recreactional activities. But again, the evidence is growing that it will not happen and that in fact, WE will loose access to more and more areas unless certain people change their ways.
