I am thinking about getting a new quad in 00. I want a 4X4. I was looking at all the 4x4 atv's when i noticed that Yamaha had two 400cc 4x4 quads for 00. What are the diffence between the to quads and which one is better? Also how would the Yamaha Wolverine compare to the two?

The Kodiak has automatic transmission, the Big Bear has automatic clutch 5-speed transmission. Both have excellent suspension. The Wolverine (350cc engine) has excellent suspension too, and uses the same engine (different clutch) as the Warrior.

I had a 99 Big Bear. For one thing, it was geared way too low, like it was made for farm work. It also had the auto clutch, which I didn't like. When you were trail riding and went into a corner and down shifted when you normally would, the back wheels would lock up and skid. I know the 2000's are 400's now, but I'm sure this still exists in the machine. As soon as I heard that Yamaha came out with an auto tranny Kodiak, I got rid of my B-Bear and bought one. I paid $5800 out the door, although other dealers wanted $6400 for it. You also have push button 4WD, they do make a stricly 2WD model though, which is cheaper, of course. If you have the extra dough, I would urge you to go for the 2000 Kodiak. It's an awesome bike.

I personally like my 99 Big Bear 4x4. It's a stout rugged sucker.
