I read on this board that you could use Fram, Purolator and other brand oil filters from your local automotive store and they will fit the atv. I have a Sportsman and was told the 14622 Purolator would fit. Well, as soon as I started the engine to look for leaks, i found oil pouring out of the filter. The filter seems to bottom out before the seal makes good contact. I did not do anything wrong, these filters just don't fit. Maybe the fram is different, but the purolator definately does not work. I now need to buy another $5.50 quart of oil and a $10 polaris filter, plus, throw the $4 purolator away.

Has anyone else tried aftermarket filters?

You put the wrong filter on it. The proper Purolator filter number for a Polaris is: ML 16817.

I use Purolator Oil Filters on my Dakota, and our John Deere Lawn Tractor. No problems with those filters.
