Just curious if they fixed the problem on the later models.

Mine is number 25555 and not a problem yet, but I have only had it for about a month and about 10 hours on her.

Frame number on `01 doesn't matter. All trannys were the same - no mid production changes. The `02 got some updates with lower ratio 1st~3rd and reverse gear. I have the `01 for a year now and no tranny problems. I'm not too concerned about it.

Hopefully, the God(s) of quads are too busy with world affairs to see this post and cast a curse on my quad...

Out of the 25,000+ units produced and sold, I wonder how many have had problems. Out of those, how many did the owners pay to fix and how many did Yamaha fix. I know that a few people have had problems which really makes me think Yamaha should have paid to fix all of them. I would call it manufacturing defects, perhaps a bad batch of metal or something. I doubt those owners caused it to happen - just bad luck. On the other hand, I don't think this is some huge widespread problem either. Not enough people have experienced it. How many times have we had someone post wanting to collect the names of people with problems so a unified front could be presented to Yamaha and then about 2-3 people post and have adequate documentation to prove they had a bad tranny?

With that said, I hope I remain in the so called "lucky" group. I have number 11,??? something or other with thousands of miles and hundreds and hundreds of hours on it.

Mine is #002479 and I haven't had a problem other then overheating the clutch.
So I guess it's a spread out problem. Maybe a bad batch of metal like someone said. Later

I haven't had any problems yet either and I know it's a lower number. Although I did get the extended warranty because of all the problems people were talking about on this forum.

So if it never goes I expect everyone to chip in and give me my money back. LOL LOL LOL LOL

Hi Chaseman,

When you have a chance, would you be able to provide me with a list of nice places to ride in yout state? I enjoy riding in open fields, trails and big hills and basically any typ of terrain. I'm looking forward to meeting new people to ride with as well. Any information would be greatly appreicated. I'm looking to go up there next month sometime.

Thanks,

IronBear

RapTech,
I would like to know where you got your information. What are you calling a frame number? My dealer swears that yamaha has assured him that all raptors beyong the 15,000 mark on the serial plate did have a new 4th gear replacement to fix the tranny problem. I have been watching this forum since the raptors came out and have been very concerned with this tranny issue as the owner of one in the late 20000's. But, I have yet to see anyone claiming a tranny problem with any raptor obove the 15000 mark. I would just like to know your sources.

Thank the holy trans god that I lucked into a just above the 15,000 number. Mine was made in early April. Purchased first of May. I have 59.50 hours on mine right now. Everthing seems ok when I am shifting. I am still concerned every time I shift that I will feel a gear let go when shifting from first to second. Chet
