kodiak reliablty

I think you would be very happy with a Kodiak. I have a 2000 model and the only thing I really had go on it was the water pump. This problem was resolved on later models. If your looking for more power than a Sportsman, get a new Grizzly. This is just my opinion, but I think if your looking for reliability. Go with a Yamaha, or a Honda. I know a lot of people who have Polaris and it seems they are always at the shop for repairs. I have about 2400 miles on my Kodiak and my belt still looks great. Bought mine off of Jeff at Tom's cycle in Indiana. Nice guy and very helpful. Good luck on your choice.

Still have one Kodiak that has over 300 hours on it. The only thing that ever broke was the water pump developed a leak. This was easily fixed with an updated water pump from Yamaha. If you buy a 2001, check to see if it has a clear tube coming down from the water pump. If it does, then you have one of the updated models. Yamaha switched sometime during the 2001 production year to the new design. A new water pump is around $125. Just deduct it from the asking price if it has the older pump. It will go out on you eventually.
I also had another 2001 Kodiak that had the water pump go out while it was still under warranty. That was the only problem with that one. It had about 150 hours on it.
The Kodiak is an awesome machine. Switch the wheels for a set of ITP steel or aluminum rims. You will gain about 2" of width which helps make the Kodiak handle even better (for a utility quad, it handles really well).

Well I bought my new kodiak 2001 left over it is red. It was hard to decide red or green. I crawled underneath of it and it has the clear tube from the water pump. So I didnt give Jeff a hard time at Toms cycle in Indiana Pa. I rode it last night and it seems to have all the power you need. I have had two other quads before this and they were Polaris a 335 sportsman and a Scrambler 500. Iam glad I got the Kodiak It seems to run real good and no damn grease fittings the clutch on the Yamaha seems much better than the Polaris. So with the new water pump it wont leak? It has a clear tube from the bottom right. well thanks for your information it didnt take much to decide on the Yamaha. And the Yamaha dealers at Toms Cycle In Indiana Pa. are won of the best dealers around.

I bought mine in March 2000 and so far have had no problems except the rear brakes of course. MY Kodiak's water pump has been ok. As for how it compares to a Sprotsman I can't say since I've never been around one. All in all, I would buy it over again.
