riding in deep water
#1
This question may be kinda dumb but i was wondering if riding in deep water and getting stuck. if you get stuck in deep water should you turn off the quad or should you let it keep running and not let it stall. because ive been in water deeper than my exhaust and it still runs fine. i am just curious becasue when crossing deep water i want to know what to do incase i do get stuck. well thanks for the advice.

Many riders add extensions to the air intake box on their atv's so that they will continue to run in the deepest of water. In fact, most atv's will float although they become very unstable and easy to tip over. There is positive air pressure throughout an engine that is running with the exception of the carburator intake.
The most important rule however is to never crank and engine that has been flooded in water until the water has been drained and the spark plug removed. Water is a non-compressible liquid that will bend a crankshaft when the piston cannot travel the length of the cylinder. And yes, your starting motor or kickstarter is strong enough to do it.

The exhaust being under water will not hurt it. Leave the quad running and dont let it die. If you get into water over your air intake you are in trouble and should get out soon or shut it off. You do not want water in your engine. Take a look at my pictures for our water adventures. Http://www.ansley.net
