There is a left sidecase for an 89 on ebay.I do believe however.Any year R except the 86's the cases had to be matched up.So when U break one U have to buy both.That is what my dad and the service guy at the honda shop told me.

It's for an 86 the 89's were black also.

 

You can mix and match any year center cases. The only thing different is were the front motor mount bolt hole is. The earlier year cases were slightly different but they will still match up fine.

I have a 89 motor on my R and I busted my left side case a few months ago, and bought a used one off of a 85 250R three wheeler. It works great and I only gave $50 bucks for it.

 

i just replaced the left side case on my 87 250r new from nacs was 260 it had all the seals and bearings in it

 

$260!
You can get one from Service Honda for a little over $200.
