I have a very pronounced "clank" when taking off in my 500 HO, it sounds like two pieces of soft metal hitting each other (Clutches?).
The sound has been there, and was there prior to bringing the bike home from the dealership in February. The dealership mechanic said it was worse than most and that all of the 500,s clank some, to take it home and maybe it would quiet with wear. It hasnt, its gotten much louder. Took it back, Mechanic thinks its in the transmission but Polaris told him it was the clutch and they all clank and they
(Polaris) did not want to fix it. He suggested I call, I did , the Rep. acted like an _ss and also said they all clank, told him the mechanic said not like that, but nowhere did it get me. What is the Clanking, its not mild, its rather noticable and pornounced. Please help, Dealer is fantastic, dealing with Polaris is the trouble here.

That noise is your EBS clutch. The helix makes that sound when you accelerate. It is normal. Some just make more noise than others.

This past Saturday I rode both the 02 500HO and the 02 700 Twin. They both have a small clicking noise when starting from a complete stop. It does seem un necessary. My dealer also told me that it is the EBS clutch that caused this. I don't particulary care for it either. Polaris is should be working on a fix.
I Won't buy a 700 until this is fixed.
