It'll do just fine. If your both new to sport quads then take it easy at first, dont jump into competition with each other over who is better. Ride together, learn together, and just have fun, thats all its about. They are both great trail machines. Have Fun!!!

Unlike most Honda owners, I know the Raptor is a nice quad. A powerful quad. And yes, a fairly reliable quad. There is no doubt a Raptor will thump a 400EX in a drag. But who really spends all day dragging? The 400EX is said to be "under powered" compared to some other quads but people who have ridden both know that on a track, trails or in the wood the 400EX's handling keeps it ahead of the pack. Until you ride one, you have no clue but experienced riders will tell you that it handles like it is on a rail. The 400EX makes beginners look like experienced riders immediately.

Just my two cents...

Yep, unless the trail really opens up into some wide open areas, the 400ex will hang right with the Raptor. Rider ability level is more important than the machine in the tight twisties.

I agree with all of you. The Raptor is a little faster then a 400ex in a drag race, however they are both incredible machines. They are both very reliable, and perform very well in the high performance market. I own a 400ex as well and like it a lot. I have ridden a Raptor once and really liked it a lot, but I think the 400ex handles a little bit better then the Raptor. As for riding through the trails, the 400ex will have no problem keeping up with a Raptor. Since you are new to the sport, I suggest that you take it easy for a while until you know every square inch of your machine. I bought my 400ex 2 years ago coming right off of it's younger cousin, the 300ex. I had to actually go back and learn how to ride this machine because it is not a "beefed up" 300ex motor. It has a whole different motor that produces more torgue and horsepower then a 300ex. The suspension and handling is also very different as well.

Garyc660r is right. It also has to do with the rider ability too. Since you are new to the sport and are buying the 400ex off of your buddy that just bought the Raptor, I am assuming that he has more experience in riding then you do. So he right now has an advantage against you. Don't worry though. Just be safe and learn the basics first before anything else. Have fun doing so!!! You just entered an addicting, and expensive sport so enjoy!!! If you have any other questions, please feel free to e-mail me. I always enjoy talking about 400ex's and Raptors. Both machines are my favorite machines today on the market. Thanks.

I'm with these guys, rider ability is the most important factor here when the trail gets tight.

I have trail rode with a Raptor and can tell you its a great bike. I think in all fairness though, it has more trouble in tight turns and being able to negotiate the "tippy" terrains. I think that is only due to the higher center of gravity though, you mod it a little and drop that rear end and I think it would be a great trail bike.
