I think the 400 is a nice bike, you will not have any trouble hanging with the raptor. I have a raptor and my buddy has a 400 and we ride together all the time and other than in a drag race he has no problem keeping up. I love my raptor and have not had any of the problems that people talk about. It is a great machine and I think the 400 is a great machine also. I like the feel and size of the raptor better for myself.

You will be fine

I own a 400ex and have ridden with raptors. They are both very good trail machines. The 400ex has the slight edge on handling and the raptor has the edge on power. For most trail riding, these differences are not even an issue. On the trails at Wayne National Forest, I rarely get past 3rd gear and the bottom gears have a ton of power. The ability of the rider has more to due with a 400ex keeping up with the raptor (or vice versa) than anything. I have a buddy that used to ride a recon and could keep up with guys on sport bikes on the tight trails. On wide open sections, they could lose him, but not on tight trails. Point is, he is a really good rider that knows how to get the most out of the machine. Ride safe!
