Hey racerMX you e-mailed me from MacDizzy's forum but for some reason I couldn't reply. Where do you guys ride, I'm dying for some sand pits. I busted my hand riding about a month ago but should be on the go inabout 2 weeks.

I have a 1999 400EX that I have owned since september 1998. Ever since I got it, it makes a "whisling" noise when I first start it up. It is most noticeable when I first start it, until it gets warmed up. It does not seem to vary when I rev the motor, but I am certain it is coming from the motor. Like I said, it has done it since it was new, and the quad still starts and runs great.

Any ideas? I think it could be the oil pump.

look at the frame inside and out,tip it up on 2 wheels and look under it.the frame and motor are most important.for racing 88 and 89's are better
bucause the swing arm is 1-inch shorter and thay are geared a little bit different.theirs not much too the bike, frame, motor, intake and all hardware,
a-arms,axle,swing arn and shocks. make sure the frame is not cracked and welded, swing arm to.ask if theres any recites on the bike, motor work, ext.

Well, Im picking up my new 02' 400ex today with Nerf's and front bumper... but anyways.... what maintanance to I need to do after every time I get in from the trails. Chain, Air filter, etc.? I know I'll need to get a manual, but till I do, can you shed some light on the mandatory up-keep? Thanks for the help!

well trailbandit, the most important things are.keeping the air filter clean, changing the oil about every 15-20 hours.after the 1st 20 hrs take it to the dealer to have them look at the vavles, and always make sure you break it in proplery.if you don't it could be real bad and real expensive.people that don't break there bikes in rite usuly have problems in the 1st year..................one more thing be sure to look at the brand new suszki 400z ,i think it will woop up on the 400's

but thats just my opinion...........................
