THE MOTOR: 87 250X
THE PROBLEM: SMOKES ALOT (BRAND NEW RINGS) AND MAKES RATTLING SOUND WHEN I LET OFF GAS AFTER BEING REVVED UP

THE DIAGNOSIS: THE SOUND IS MY TIMING CHAIN SLAPPING BECAUSE MY TENSIONER IS BAD.....OR THE SOUND IS CONNECTING ROD BEARING GOING OUT AND THE SMOKE IS THE OIL GETTING BY THE RINGS BECAUSE I NEED TO GO TO A BIGGER PISTON AND RINGS (STOCK BORE, JUST RE-RINGED IT) OR MY VALVE SEALS ARE SHOT......I LOST A CONNECTING ROD BEARING BEFORE, IT MADE FUNNY NOISES (LIKE PEE GRAVEL IN A TIN CAN) WHEN I REVVED IT UP....MY QUESTION IS, HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD THE NOISE WHEN THEIR MOTOR IS COMING DOWN, AND IT ENDED UP BEING A CONNECTING ROD BEARING????

If your noise is ONLY on the slowing down it's not likely that it's the rod bearing. Usually 'shot' rod bearings make noise at several rev levels and loadings.

as for the rest of your moto problems I hate to hazard a guess a lot can happen to a motor over 14 years.

Thats what I thought.....like I said, I have lost a connecting rod bearing before, and it rattled when put under a load or revved hard.....so this sound Im hearing when it comes down might be the timing chain slappinp around because of a shot tensioner? (Im so busy, I havent even had time to pull out the tensioner to see...if that is what you are thinking(

Check your timing chain first and foremost. If your bike only smokes on start up and untill it gets warm then it's your valve seals. Did you get your cylinder honed out before you reringed it? If not you might need an oversize piston and a fresh bore job. Your knocking could be the piston skirt rattling and hitting the cylinder walls. If it's a bearing like you said it'll make the sounds that you described about a tin can.
