I am in the market for a high performanc atv. I was thinking of a bran new 2002 honda 400 ex. Then i stumbled across the beast of high performance atv,s. the ds 650. Now how reliable is this atv can it stand up to the honda in relability. Has any one ever owned both atvs the honda 400ex or ds650. yes i am aware the ds 650 will blow a 400ex out of the water in just about every thing expect one thing that is reliability will it last as long as a Honda. i am not going to even look at a raptor they are too narrow and wont to tip over i have rode one you cant even whip it around in the trail.
any ways what is the difference in the regular ds650 and the baja edition. Please folks i need info on reliability.
THANK YOU FOR ANY INFORMATION
Have a Great Day!

I don't own one yet, But I will within the next couple of weeks. I am buying a new Baja.
I have read everything I possibly could on these and if you were to poll the owners, most would buy another in a heartbeat.
I have not found a ds owner that says I don't like this bike. The 400 is a great bike. My friend has one and it is very nice. It depends on what you want. The 400 is smaller, lighter and can be a fairly fast bike. The DS is wider, longer and from what I hear is the ferrari of quads.
The DS will most likely excell in the dunes and in desert racing type things. It would probably suffer in the woods. I don't really like riding in the woods. I prefer the desert and love the dunes. So that is why I am choosing the baja.
Well, that is my 2 cents and I am sure some actual owners will chime in and give you their thoughts.

I had 300ex(wifes) & a 400ex(mine)Then I traded the 300ex(sorry wife)in and bought the DS,first couple of trips out with the new DS were a little disapointing The frontend was a little twitchy and the jetting was was messed up. But once I fixed the jetting and realigned the front end(more toe in)I WAS HOOKED!Now I figured I had the best of both worlds, but if the wife wasn't riding the 400EX it soon just collected dust.We ended up selling the 400EX because she liked a easer riding quad(with reverse and no shifting) so I bought her a 500 4x4 scrambler.I dont miss the 400ex much,it made good back-up quad though.

I had a 2001 400ex and I loved it. It required zero non-standerd mantinence. Then I traded it for a 2001 DS650, now the only problem is I have troubles puting it away at the end of the day. It has had to have some minor repairs due to hard mx riding and one run in with a wash out. I love it, you wont regret it for a second.
