Just got a new Ruby and in the owner's manual it tells you to let up on the throttle when shifting in ESP mode, the dealer said it's not necessary. What are you Rubicon owners doing and do you have any concerns shifting without letting up on the throttle?

How about ignoring the dealer AND the manual and doing what the machine likes. I haven't driven a ruby, but it works like this, the only reason you back out of the throttle on most vehicles while shifting, is to reduce drivetrain shock loads, (and prevent clutch roasting- NA on the ruby.) So does the drivetrain buck when "shifted" under throttle? Since the ruby doesn't really "shift" at all, it's just positions within a hydrostatic drive, I'd suspect that it transfers from one "gear" to the next without the need for backing out of the throttle.

I usally try to let up on the throttle, but it upshifts just fine under throttle. When you think about it it is conestley shifting in auto mode, just much much faster in ESP. You can here the shift motor move the swash plate very fast in esp

 

You don't need to let off the gas. I do out of habit though. If you shift "gears" while you're on the throttle, you just feel it surge ahead. It's pretty cool.
