I just bought a HPD trail pipe in an RCR stage 1 kit. was that a good choice? I ride mud sometimes, but mostly fast trail riding, and some play races with my friends. Anybody who has this pipe please tell me how you like it. Also, what is FTR? I've heard of them on here but never seen them. Also, there's a guy on here named 800twin, and claims to have a 00' trailblazer with an 800 twin engine in it? anybody seen this thing? Thanks!

You can never go wrong with any parts from either RCR or HPD! FTR is a company that went out of business. To see what their pipes looked like click on the link in my sig.

I've ran all of RCR's pipe as well as the HPD trail. Performance wise the HPD trail and RCR top end are very similar. The most notable differnece is in the craftsmanship, as RCR hand builds all of his and HPD has them stamped. This combo will realy wake our 400 up, however there is a long road ahead of you as HPD has a plethora of "go fast goodies" available.

Next on the list would be some mild head work and intake mods (IE 38TMX/39PWK carbs). Best thing to do right now is enjoy the new bike and think about where you want to be in 1-3 years and plan accordingly, as you dont want to be replacing mods with mods. For instance it would suck to drop $225 on a trail port job, then another $270 for a race job 1 year down the road!

Adam Scrambler400,

If all you're going to be doing is trail riding, then the RCR or HPD trail pipe will be o.k. for what you need. If you plan to seriously drag race it or run sand dunes, you might be happier with the top end pipe. Back when HPD used to sponsor a GNCC rider (Dave Heider, I believe) he went with a trail pipe on his bike. The top end pipe was simply too much in the tight woods that they run in the GNCC.

FTR, like AZ400L said, went belly up. Good riddance as far as I'm concerned. I've heard that they had a bad reputation for taking your money and never getting you your parts.

I've seen a picture of the 800 "Trailblazer" you're talking about. It's a fine example of the question "More?".

I had a 99 Sport. The HPD trail pipe was the best mod I did to it. I also had the RcR air box mod, HPD clutch kit, Wiseco piston, and Delta-V-Force reeds. It was as fast as I wanted it to be.

You made a wise choice.
