I just changed the plug in my raptor today, first time since i bought it over a year ago. I took out the stock plug and noticed the numbers were different from the one i bought from my local bike shop. The stock is NGKR DPR8EA and the new one i installed is NGK D8EA. I am used to 2 strokes and i am wondering what the difference is between these plugs. Do I need to be concerned? Any help would be appriciated.

Mantis...do yourself a favor and get the RIGHT plug! "P" stands for projected tip. "R" stands for resistor. You can get by without the resistor feature on the plug, but you really should stay with a projected tip. Hope this helps.

No need to be concerned. The "8" in both of those plugs is the heat range. They are the same and that is really the only factor to be majorly concerned with.

The "R" simply means "resistor". The stock plug is a resistor type, but with the Raptor's ignition not being a digital, you don't really need a resistor plug unless you are running a CB radio on it, which I don't really see anyone using one on a Raptor anytime soon.

The "E" is the "reach" or "depth" of the plug so you are ok there too.

P.S. I read your posts on the Raptor vs. Z400 topic, true or not, I find them.......interesting to say the least. Anyway, hope this helps

The best is to run the right plug, but as your seasons change you might want to go to a hotter plug.
