Hey guys,
I'm trying to install a Dynojet kit on my Wolverine because I just put a Pro-Flow filter on, and of course I'm confused. The directions included were not the most detailed:
1. Remove vacuum slide from carb(where is this?) Remove stock needles and spacers(I'm sure if I knew where or what the vacuum slide was I could find this)

Do you think this is something I should let my dealer do, because I'm clueless where this stuff is....I took two panels off the side of my carb, one contained some linkage behind it so I screwed it back on, the other had a spring behind it and an o-ring.....am I in the right neighborhood? I have a '99 Wolverine by the way....

Nope you're not in the right ballpark, remove the carb. from the atv, remove the top(black) of the carb. the top has a black diaphragm, remove the side and needle and jet. This is a pretty straight forward operation. I found that leaving the outer- rap of the proflow allows the quad to breathe alot better. I ride at 500 to 1000ft above sea level, I installed the 160 jet in mine, it runs just a little rich but not too much, also I installed another air snokel which allowed me to run the # 160 jet. Do a search under Harold to see my thoughts on this sobject. P.S. I ALSO HAVE A IDS SUPERTRAPP ON MY QUAD.

Runntoco, If you are that "clueless" as to what your doing, maybe you should find someone that is more comfortable with mechnical things to help you, or take it to a shop. I have seen people do more damage trying to do a repair than the repair itself.

Thanks Harold for your help, and Brian yes I'd have to say I'm pretty "clueless" when it comes to ATV engines, never taken one apart or studied one...but I'm trying to learn..but I'm sure you knew it all from the womb!!!!

from the womb?..LOL.. nope..I wish I had of been that lucky. I studied it for 2 years before venturing out in the field to become a professional. I just know where your coming from, I have been there also. I guess that is what peaked my interest into this field in the first place. I have also seen alot of people bring in their machines for repairs after they had tried to fix it themselves. They usually caused more problems and it ends up costing them more in the long run. I was just trying to save you some down the road grief and expense. Please don't read my posting as hostile.

No man I didn't read it that way, I appreciate the insight. I went ahead and did what Harold recommended and completed everything. Only problem is now that everything is hooked back up it won't idle unless I give it some gas and it's making a sound every 5 seconds or so that sounds like air gasping, like a cylinder is missing or something, and another thing is when I'm off the gas crusing to a stop it sounds like a dirt bike "whap-whap-whap".....looks like I make take it by the dealer tomorrow to see if they can figure out what I've done!

Harold, Did you say you keep the outer rap on with a 160 main jet? I'm running the 155 main with a pro flow and FMF pipe. I think I'm running a little rich but I don't have any definate symtoms. Does your bike run hot? My pipe turned blue right where they slip together and I was really concerned. It runs great and I couldn't believe the difference after installing that kit. If I were to install my outerwrap, It would seem to me that it would run even richer.

I found your post interesting and am just trying to find the optimum setup by trial & error. I to ride between 500' & 3000' ASL.

TACO, were you careful to install those pieces just like the directions said? Did you drill out both of the holes in the bottom of the vaccuum slide with the bit provided? I found it really confusing to follow those directions but if you step back and think about it its pretty easy. Make sure that the order of pieces on the needle is exact! It should be(bottom to top): thick white washer, cir clip (3rd groove down),stainless washer, then the large white spring base washer. Be sure that you get a good clean seal when you put that top cap back on and that the rubber diaphram is sitting properly in the seat.

Then lightly seat the mixture screw and turn it back out 2 1/2 turns. This setting is a very good place to start and you'll be able to optimize your situation like the rest of us. I recommend doing this yourself, it's fairly straight forward and a great way to learn. don't hesitate to ask questions, cause we all have them!! Good luck

I put one in mine, and didnt have a problem. I dont think that you drill both holes though. The directions only say to drill the one. I have a pro flo, K&N, jet kit, vented box, and FMF Mega Max II and run a 155 main. I ride at about 700 ft above..I think. New cam and piston goin in as soon as it gets a little warmer around here.

Mudrunner, I took the outer rap off my filter after talking to the people at proflow, the outer rap is for very dusty conditions, and "no" my engine doesn't run hot. hope this helps!!

Boomer, I'm not arguing 'cause it can easily be interpreted either way, but I'm looking at the directions as I type, and it says quote " Use the # 32 drill provided to enlarge slide lift holes(Fig. A.)

Fig. A. shows both holes but the arrow only points to one of them. I drilled both and am also very happy with the outcome.

I wish dynojet would clarify their instructions a little bit so we didn't have to guess!!

Take Care
