I do hare racing in Great Britain which is mostly 3-4 hours in woods and bogs on a pretty stock banshee.I already use a grill 6 inches infront of the rad to try to keep the worst of the mud away form the rad, however, usually, after half to three quarters of an hour the expansion tank is dry. I have started running a catchment tank for the vent pipe on the expansion tank located on the side of the rad so as the water cools it returns to the expansion tank. This has helped ,but, still in very slow sections the catchment tank boils over. Any suggestions for any mods very welcome as it is getting expensive replacing pistons.

 

Go to www.toomey.com they got a new raditor for the banshee. they said it works so well that u need to undo it in the winter. But its kinda pricey.

 

Get a coolhead for your Banshee and it will reduce overheating significantly. While your at it go ahead and get a stainless water pump impeller as this reduces temperatures a little by moving the coolant better and lasts a lot longer than the stock plastic impeller which melts when hot enough. Try using Red Line's Water Wetter in the radiator, I've used it in my Mustang, Bronco, and Banshee and it really works good at keeping the coolant temps down.

 

I never thought that cooling would be a problem for me...But the last time I had the machine out, it overheated pretty quick. (this was a cold winter day).
....so I associated it with possible lean jetting from the temp change.... But the next ride...same thing. So into the side case I went, and found the stock water pump impeller to be totally deformed and melted.
..... But anyway....without knowing how this is going to work, I ordered a stainless impeller from "James Lucky company"...and a pro design super cooler (inline cooling fins) for the return line from the engine to the radiator.
I am planning on a cool head in the future, as it is a bit too costly for the moment.

I will post my results with the upgrades as soon as I am able to get it put back together and out for a test run.

Well today I ordered a racing radiator from Toomey racing, and it should be here in a week or so. They claim its a hundred times better than the stock rad, so that should easily solve the problem right there. Plus I'll be getting a Pro Design cool head in the near future as well.

I also have the Pro Design inline cooler, just have to install it before riding season begins.

my friend has a banshee, we go out riding every w/e! after about a hard 45 minute ride he needs to let his bike cool dwon coz i starts to overheat! Recently he brought some stuff called "ice spray" or something! i am not to sure... but the bike didnt over heat as fast and it managed to do a pretty good job of cooling it down!!
