I have an '86 250R and am having some problems finding a GOOD mid/top end pipe. To give you guys some information... Currently the bike is .040 over, some mild porting, rad valve, boyseen reeds, K&N filter, and stock carb. I am currently using a polished DG pipe and silencer. It fits terrible and I am crediting that for some of the performance issues. I am thinking of switching to a LRD adjustable... Does anyone have any insite for me on this topic??? What works for you guys with similar setups??????

I personally have tried a few different pipes ESR, FMF, DG, LRD and Stock.

LRD is nice that you could adjust but the powerband is very narrow, also the pipe drools at the adjustment/expansion point, the adjustment tabs break off easy too.

FMF producess lots of power on the high mid to top end but it was totally gutsless on the bottom, it rode like a banshee.

DG hit the frame, brake lines and didn't line up good, it was almost unridable unless it was WOT.

Stock , what can I say, wide powerband but not much HP

ESR, currently I am using a trx-6, this is a low - mid pipe and I couldn't be happier with it but you want a mid- high end pipe. Go with the trx-5 you will not regret it, everyone is raving about this pipe. It has a w-i-d-e powerband and fits great. Contact Lumpdog on this forum he will give you a good price.

I have an 86 trx250r and have had several pipes also . The DG you have has lots of low end runs out mid though , i have run FMF both woods and the gold and the woods was ok but the fit was alittle off , the gold has great low and mid range but peters alittle in the top and the fit is about the same as the woods . The best mid to top i have riden was the paul turner tt pipe . it hits a little below mid and storms thru the top . You may need to spend a little time on the jetting but the ERS trx5 from what i have heard is the rave right now . Good luck

Shoebs,go for the LRD,works & fits great! Finish is top notch, adjustability lets you pick "set-up".
I was able to seal mine (after 2 attempts),& tabs OK so far.

I had the LRD pipe and the Sparks MX and TT pipes. If you want brute HP go for the Curtis Sparks TT pipe. It's head and shoulders over the rest I feel (the dyno did too). The Sparks MX pipe was great too, but it runs out a hair sooner than the tt, but this is my choice if I could only have one. Plus it doesn't blow goo out of all the seams like the LRD
