I don't know what the problem is, but my '99 Scrambler 500 just started doing the EXACT same thing on Saturday. It is not all the time, though. Just on occasion while I was using it. If you figure it out, let us all know because I don't even know where to start looking. I guess I will get out my manual and look at the wire schematic.

My freind had the same problem with his Magnum 425, it turned out to be the rpm limiter for reverse, that's why yours will run with the override pushed, you are bypassing the circuit. The dealer should be able to adjust it to operate at a higher rpm so you can stay running and back up. Hope that helps

If you don't like what the dealer has to say about the rpm limiter, you can also go under the dash and pull one wire off the pannel, and you will never need to use that button again! That's what I did with my 95 Scrambler 4x4, really sux trying to back out of mud or something, and the 4 wheel drive kicks out until you push that button again. With the wire disconnected, it's like the override button is always pushed in. Let me know if you are interested in doing this.

I was wondering how you overrode the rev limiter. I have a 2002 SP 500, but I'd say the wiring will be the same.

Thanks,

Yes, ProXScrambler, I am very interested in taking care of the reverse limiter. Which wire can be disconnected?? I may do so on all three of ours if I can do so without damaging anything (resale someday, possibly).

Thanks,

problem is fixed it turned out that the limiter box was bad. thanks guys! also i found out that all you have to do is unplug the yellow/red wire on the limiter box and your override button is disconnected.

Where is the rev limiter box so I can unplug the yellow/red wire?

The best place to unplug it, if you newer quad has it, is where all the wire on it come to that main pannel. This way, if you ever want to, you can just plug it back in. It's just a female terminal that is pluged in, and the board that you unplug it from, has the colors of the wires written on the board itself.

I hate to keep asking what may be seem like dumb questions, but where is the Rev limiter box? I have a 2002 SP 500 HO, and the only thing I can find in the wiring diagram is somethiong that says "REV ACC", and it says it is located "under the headlamps", don't know if this is the reverse limiter or not. Other than that, the only other three I can find related to reverse are the actual wires for the switch on the handlebars, one is purple, labeled "overide", it runs to either a wire labeled N.O. (normally open), this one runs to a box labeled GRY/White splice, or it goes to one labeled NC (normally closed)and it runs to a plug-in terminal under the headlight pod. I am really interested in unhooking the rev override, it's hard to turn and look while backing up, see what you're about to hit, and try to keep both hands on the bars just to keep in in 4WD. If anyone else can help who knows more about the wiring, please help a new Polaris owner out.

Thanks,
Andy S.
