2002 Scrambler 4x4 or is there something better?
#1
Hi all,
I sold my 99 Scrambler 500 4x4 about a year ago so that the wife and I could put a swimming pool in our new house. She sold her Rancher ES 2x4. I think I am ready to buy another quad. For me, it will be purely recreational. I like to ride in the Sierra Nevada mountains and for the most part, it's trail riding. But, I also like to do rock crawling, snow riding, racing, and jumps. My question is, do you guys think another Scrambler would be the best choice or is there something better out now? What about a Prairie 650 or the new Sportsman 700? Any advice would help.
Thanks,
-Ash

If you were riding just trails the Scram would be good. However rock climbing isn't what it was made for, with no low gear you would get the ride of your life. I would suggest either a sp500, sp700, or the 660 Griz. The Prairie 650 is nice, but you would get more GC and a better ride with the IRS. They are all good bikes and would't go wrong with either of them. So to make your choice, go to the dealer that will take care of you and buy the quad he sells. A good dealer is worth more then saving a couple hundred dollars somewhere else.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Those are both good suggestions. I know the Scrambler is not the best for rock climbing but how do you think it compares to trail riding? Let's compare it with the 700 for instance. On a 1-10 scale, let's give the Scrambler a 6 for rock climbing and the 700 gets a 10. Now for fast trail riding, I would give my previous Scrambler a 9, what do you think the 700 would get?
Thanks again,

Personally I think that the 700 scrambler is way too heavy. Polars can shave some weight off it by using some alluminum parts. The engine seems solid enough from what I've heard but if they could just take some weight off. Any quad that weighs over 600lbs is too heavy in my book. They could get the 700 under 600lbs if they really tried.
