Stupid Rim and Tire set mistake (or is it??)!!! URGENT URGENT
#1
Hey guys I think my stupidity finally came back to haunt me!! I just bought the ITP rims with a set of ITP 589's for my grizzly 660. They sold me the set as ITP recomends, the offset of the rims at 5+2 and 2+5. Tires 27x9x12 and 27x11x12. The thing is that the back set is way waaaaaaaaaaay too wide!!! I mean truck wide!! It looks ridiculously exagerated!
Does any body have this setting on their quad? Will this affect the performance of the IRS suspention? Looking at some pictures of modified grizzlies I finally noticed that you guys (e.g. Silverbear) have the same setting in the fron as in the back.
I am really dissapointed in me. Please help me here! Will these tires fit on stock rims? Should I buy the same offset for the rear rims as in the front? Or sholud I stay just like this?????????!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE; PLEASE HELP ME!
ps: I bought them through the internet, so there was no way to see them before I ordered them, they dont sell them down here (hope this makes me seem less stupid!!! hahahaha)

Rduran~
That's the way the big wheel set came to me from East Kentucky Motorsports. I had thought that you needed to specify you wanted the extra offset on the rears to get it like that, now I understand what Andy Bassham told me: Request the same wheels from the front for the rears. Don't feel too bad Rduran, I would have fell in the same hole, but for the grace of the company I bought my stuff from, they were smarter then me.
As for effecting the IRS....I dunno. I suppose it can put more strain on those joints because you have more on the outside then inside. If you planned on doing a lot of jumping with your Grizz, it may not be too cool. Have you tried calling the company you bought the rims from to see if they would take them back...it would be worth a shot.
Finally, yes, those tires will fit on your stock rims, although personally I would preferr a little more offset than what the stockers offer when going to a taller tire & if you plan on removing your swaybar.
Hope this helps...

Sorry for your mistake, but I must thank you for posting. I am going to order wheels and tires for my 2001 Kodiak, and it never really occured to me to question the offset. I too was looking at buying a package deal - wheels and tires together. I just assumed that the offset would be the same as stock, when they provide a "package" for a particular model.
I'm looking at ITP rims with Bear Claws, 9x12x26 front and 12x12x26 rear.
I realize that I will need a little more offset to provide some clearance, especially on the front for tight turns, but want to keep it close to stock width if possible.
What offset do I need, or how do I determine?
Thanks

I ordered my ITP wheels from rocky mountain . Your dealers must not know there is a difference in the 01' and the 02'. the offset you have for the front is also what you are to use on the rear an that is the only way you can get custom wheels for the 02' 660. the idependent rear suspensension is the reason. yamaha used longer rear drive axels than other irs quads to limit the amount of flexing the rear drive line joints have to endure to add to the longevity of the joints.

Well, actually I ordered from Rocky Mountain and specified the 2002 Grizzly Model and that's what they sent. Called them back and in fact they told they had made the mistake and I should not worry that they would take care of me. So it's just a temporary set back, thats all. Thanks for all the replies! Hoping to recieve the correct setting soon!

I'm not sure how this all fits in, but my rear ITP's are the same as my front, because they actually are the front rims. In side the rim on my rear it states:
ITP
P/N 12A110
SIZE: 12X7
P.C.F.: 4/110
FINISH: ALUM MAG FRONT
I only know this because, like a moron, I didn't get my left rear torced down when I put the center caps and new lugs on. A few weekends after that I had my left rear wheel come off while I was going down hill...only noticed because the damn tire passed me. Needless to say, the wheel was trashed and the centercap. I ordered a new rim, lugs, centercap from East Kentucky Motorsports, then went to schwabs and had the Tri Claw taken off the rim and put on the new rim. I'm keeping the old rim on my garage wall as a reminder to use my head more often. So, essentially on an '02 Grizz and ITP, you're running front rims all the way around.
