Head pipe insulation.....automotive header wrap?
#1
I was thumbing through a older JEG's catalog and saw some insulated "wrap" for headers. Does anyone know if this would work on our head pipes to help with the heat build up that is in part killing the radator fans? Would it in any way cause a power loss or hurt the head pipes? Eli54 "Elliott" I have the RWR exhaust will this hurt the finish or performance any? I'm going to call JEG's on Monday and get a new catalog and see if this "wrap" is still available.

I've had the broken fan all winter and I have'nt had a problem yet BUT I know this summer with the humidity we have here in Florida I'll be needing the fan again. Last summer the fan ran alot and I do ride trails so like I said before the fan will be needed again soon.

When i replaced my fan , i bought it from what he told me was the #1 distributor for the fans. Any ways although these fans do have automotive applications, the majority of them are designed and used for major medical cooling systems in hosp. equipment.obviously there is no vibration there.thats why spal WILL NOT warranty your fan if they know what it's used for. Also me and my brother have the same setup on our DS's and his fan comes on all the time where mine comes on alot less.Any reason for that??
PS mine is WAY faster than his!!!!Only diff is my 22'' Razors or taller than his 22'' holeshots. sorry bro

ProEMTPFF,
I use the header wrap on my Graydon pipe, but for a different reason. My pipe is close to the dual carbs so I use it to keep the heat off the carbs, plus it also keeps the heat off my leg. It's not very pretty though, tends to absorb, dirt, grease, oil, etc.

Is the fan you sell the same brand "Spal" as the stock? I know that http://www.offroadwarehouse.com has the replacement Spal for $71.99.

Isn't there some sort of steel woven fabric like thing for automotive exhaust applications like this? As I recall it'd have a similar look to a steel woven brake line, just bigger (duh.) I seem to remember something like this wrapped around various things under the hood of various automobiles. As long as I'm not going nuts, and this really does exist, then that would look A LOT better than wrapping that tape around the headers.
