I bent the steering tab on my old stem, have a Diamd G anti-vibe stem now.
But I bent my original by hitting a rock at 35mph in full slide,It was all yard sale after that!I thought it held up pretty good, better then I did.
I noticed on the new Baja there is a large thick washer(I mean large)on the bottom of the steering stem that wont let the stem pull out, unless you get hit by a Mack truck. My 2000 Ds just has a small washer. The 2 piece stamped metal housing that holds the bottom stem bearing in place could be the weak link.

I dont think the Diamond G steering stem will fix the problem,(but it is an awesome unit)If this is truly a major problem.Maybe up grading to the large washer from the Baja might be the only solution for now(to stop it from possibly pulling out)I dont have my Baja close to me right now or I would take a closer look,But the bearing plates might be stronger on the Baja.As far as bending or stressing the steering stops,I would think you would have to be pretty hard on them before you would have to worry about any failure.
Jeff

P.S. I did notice a little warpage in my bearing plates

Are you talking about the "tab" on the lower part of the stem that stops you from being able to turn too far left or right? If so I've noticed mine is bent.

yea thats the tab im talking about .. the thing is that once that tab breaks the hole stem spins and it brakes the bolts that hold the stem in place ....

Jeff, does the Diamond G steering stem have a "beefed" up tab? It looks like if you can notice the tab breaking in time it can be spot welded or just have a new tab attached.

ProEMTPFF,
The Diamond G stem uses the stock bottom piece then welds the chromoly stem to it,We could probably talk to Bearman of Diamond G to see if he could beef them up though.

Hi guys
If their is a need for beefing up the steering stem tabs we can certainly do it. We add a small amount of reinforcement now but this is the first I have heard of a problem bending the tabs. We are here to take care of you and will look into it as soon as possible, we do have several irons in the fire so bear with me. Our new nerf bars are almost ready and the aluminum subframe is out for structural testing
now.
