Help....Loss of power
#1
Hello all,
I have an 86 ATC 250R. About a year ago, when I bought it, I had the top end rebuilt.
New piston (bored .30 over I think), new reeds, twist throttle, etc...
When I first got it, the thing had monster power, even in the snow, etc.
Of course over time, because it's a 2 stroke, it's lost a ton. I used to HAVE to be careful not to nail the throttle in anything under 4th gear for fear of flipping it, but in the last few months, she's been ******* pretty good. Now, I'll be honest, it's still got the 2 stroke snap, but a little too much sand or too steep of a hill, and it can't hold the powerband anymore. Not to mention the mud, which I've ridden through plenty of in the past year. My question is, should I invest the coin to rebuild it, or look at other options like new reeds, clean carb and air filter, etc. I recently cleaned the filter, and it helped quite a bit, but nowhere near how it used to be. Is this just a good ol classic loss of compression, or is it true that reed can go bad in a year, and do they affect the performance that much if they did indeed "go bad". I know it probably should be rebuilt, but I'm not really interested in dumping more $ into what is really a friggin piece of crap. Don't get me wrong, I love this trike, it's super fast, but there's alot wrong with it. (Clutch is going, brake calipers/rotors are bad, shocks are shot, etc). I can't tell you how many times this things been dumped by my friends, and my cousin who owned it before me. (oh, and me once)
Thoughts, Ideas, suggestions??
I appreciate any input.
Thanks guys (and girls)

Ya good one hahaha. I've seen Mxbubs saying some stupid crap to. And this tops it off. if your saying(mxbubs)that hondas are unrelible it just shows how dumb you realy are. Honda's by far are the most reliable either for bikes or quads. Don't be a little imature idiot please. And don't tell people things unless you no them to be true. And to think I used to respect your opinion.
