Man, what a mess. The next time I clean the filters in my honda's I am going to use kerosene. That is what the owners manual recomends. I put a post up recently on cleaning air filters and I was told to use dish soap and water. Well it does nothing than congele into a merky mess. Is there anything on the market that you can use instead of kero? Also when you re-oil it how much do you put on.

Thanks Ryan

Buy yourself a Notoil airfilter and a bottle of Notoil oil. It is bio-degradeable and non-greasy but yet still traps dirt as good if not better.

When your airfilter needs cleaning you just throw it in the washing machine or wash it out in the sink. It's quick and clean with no mess.

I just use gas. It gets the oil right out of the filter and dries quickly.

I use dish soap everytime!I am not sure what the problem is.Your filter must have been really dirty!

I just use damn soap and the little sprayer on the sink and Let it dry overnight. And then get it good and sticky with some uni filter oil.

hogmaster, save yourself some time and buy the PJ1 like i said in your other post. It works better than anything you'll ever find, or rig up.

Lonestar,
What is PJ1. A filter, solvent, or oil? I remember you sugesting it before but I didn't know what it is. Man, I still cant belive how f'n messy it was to clean them damn things. And I still cant belive guys are using soap and water. If they are they are not oiling the filter poroperly. Remember oil and water do not mix.

Thanks Ryan

Clean the oil out of the filter with kerosene then clean the remaining dirt out of it with Dawn dishwashing liquid, rinse throughly, let it dry , reoil.........gas will eventually cause the seams to seperate.........

hogmaster, Rocky Mountain ATV has the cans I was talking about. Both are $4.99. They are quite possibly the best investment you'll ever make. One is a cleaner, and the other is oil. The cleaner, you spray on, and it takes the dirt right off, then wash it w/a waterhose. Then spray the filter oil on it, and let it set for a little bit. Then you're done!
