I have been riding quads now for about 3 years. The only thing I have ridden though is my 97 Polaris Magnum 425. I have ridden some friends' auto-manuals....and one friends Raptor, although there was snow on he ground so I didnt do too much on it. My main interests are trail riding and there are some tracks near where I live. I want to upgrade to a sport quad from my Polaris and I am pretty stuck on the 400ex. Is this a good decision or should I consider another model?

Just read any review on the 400EX.
It's the best handling, most balanced quad you can buy.

(I didn't say the most powerful, I said the most balanced.)

I assume the late 80's 250X is similar to the 400ex except the 400ex has more power and some other enhancements. If that is the case go for it!

I use to ride my cousins '87 or '88 250X and man that thing was a blast to ride and if it had more power it would have been just that much better. It could be a lot of fun to go all out on and it was also great to just to drive around slowly for like trails and such. It was a nice all around sport quad IMHO.

Have fun with whatever you get!

Ted

The 400EX would be the best first sport quad I think. Next to best 300EX.

TYhe 400 Ex is a good choice but if you are going to do a lot of trail riding you might want reverse which the 300 EX has.
Both are good bikes.
