I thought the 400ex has 5 forward speeds and it also had reverse. Am I incorrect in thinking that?

Or does the 400ex now have forward speeds and got ride of the reverse?

Nah, the 400 ex has never had reverse. The Raptor and 300 Ex do though. But I think the Raptor would be too much bike for a begginer.

 

Grrrrrrr, how can people say something is "too much bike for a beginner"? Just because it might be more powerful than a 400EX doesn't mean he can't handle it. You don't have to be WFO in 5th gear. I got a CR250 for my first dirtbike at 13, everyone told me to get a 125, but when I test rode one, I couldn't stand it because of the weak powerband. At first the 250 was too much bike for me, but I learned how to control it, and I feel that is a real advantage out on a track, because if you don't know how much speed to carry into a turn or jump, you're probably going to wreck or make a mistake. Well enough venting for now.

 

Dutzman I know you will make the right decision by getting the 400ex just like I did. i once had a polaris so I know what you mean when you want to upgrade to something else. I think the 400ex will be great for you. I do all kind of riding with mine and I love every bit of it. so go get you that 400ex and ride red. have fun from #1 stunning madmike
