87 250x will not fire

anyone know ways to troubleshoot firing on 250x

check your grounding. or could be a bad switch or the like. if all those good it could be your cdi or ignition box. unlikely but could be if old.

thanks 2fiftyX previous owner ran out of gas and let bike sit on beach for one week with salt water. but that gives me somewhere to start.

when i kick bike over headlight wants to shine but plug will not spark

Is it a new plug and gapped right. If so try putting the spark plug in the covering but not screwing it into the engine. Then touch the other end of the plug (the end that screws into the engine) to something metal on the engine and then kick it or electric start (which ever you have). If it sparks then your spark plug wire is good. if it doesnt spark you might try repalcing the wire.

i can put plug in other bike it sparks fine also when i touch to metal on engine it does nothing im going to replace wire if that doesn't fix ill replace cdi

I would double check your connections starting from the ignition coil (the wire to the spark plug) on back to your voltage regulator to make sure they are secure and making good contact before you start replacing.

i just built a 250x and the coil would fire the plug but it still would not start.i changed the coil (after testing it it wasnt getting enough ohms) now it starts 1st kick

I dought it is your cdi box. Cdi boxes rarely go bad. The problem is more likely in your coil, bad connection, or switch.
